South Tipperary Student Enterprise Awards

Friday 7th March 2014, 139 enterprising students (comprising 44 businesses) from secondary schools throughout South Tipperary attended the Student Enterprise Awards held in LIT Tipperary (Clonmel Campus) and organised and hosted by South Tipperary County Enterprise Board.


Since last September enterprising secondary school students have been busy researching their business ideas and producing innovative products and services.

The Senior Category was won by David Doyle, Jack O’Sullivan & Michael Whelan of CBS Secondary School, Carrick-on-Suir, with their ‘Welly Racks & Jacks’ business that makes hand crafted welly racks and back saving jacks.

The Intermediate Category was won by Adam Hunt with “Adam’s Birdy Treat” from CBS Secondary School, Carrick on Suir, with his bird food for most types of birds.

The Junior Category winner was Emer Walsh with “Emerscreamers” from Scoil Mhuire, Carrick-on-Suir, with handmade personalised cardsemer walsh

South Tipperary winner of Best Innovation Award – Junior Category

Each category winner will represent the county at the national finals in Croke Park on Wednesday, 2nd April 2014.

Judging of the Senior Category was conducted by Mr. Daithi Allison, Abbot Vascular, and Ms. Susan Schaerer, The Label Factory.  Intermediate & Junior Category judges were Ms. Patsy Cooney and Ms. Fiona Browne of LIT Tipperary.

The event was sponsored by local employers in the area, Abbott Vascular and Merck Sharp & Dohme (Irl) Ltd.  LIT-Tipperary, WIT and Abbott Vascular also exhibited to the students on the day.
